PIP Termite & Pest Control
has been providing residential and commercial fire ant (Solenopsis invicta) extermination and prevention
services for over 25 years. Red Fire Ants are not only a common pest in the South Florida
region, they are can also be one of the most painful pests you will encounter. Fire ants commonly nest in sandy grass areas as well within cracks in pavements and brick paver patios. This typically leads to people accidentally stepping in or standing on their nest which leads to painful burning stings which gives them the name "Fire Ants". In other cases, the nest will be built under objects such as timber, logs, rocks, pavers, bricks, etc.; making the nests harder to identify and treat.
Fire ants can be distinguished from other ants by their copper brown head and body with a darker abdomen. The worker ants are blackish to reddish, and their size varies from 2mm to 6 mm (0.12 in to 0.24 in). Different sizes of ants can all exist in the same nest. Fire ants nest in the soil, often near moist areas, such as river banks, pond edges, watered lawns and highway edges.
